You’ve probably heard of people talk about carbon footprints, but do you know what it means?
Your carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases released into the air because of the things you do. You might already think about your carbon footprint when you take a flight or drive your car but there are many factors that contribute to it including your age and where you live.
Other factors include:
- The energy efficiency of your home
- The size of your household
- The way you travel, public transport, driving, flying.
- The amount of waste you create and how you dispose of it
- The food that you eat and how it was produced
Once you know your carbon footprint you can take steps to mitigate it. This could be as easy as getting off the bus two stops early and walking the rest of the way, fixing or mending your clothes so they last longer and turning down your thermostat by 1 degree. All these efforts will save energy, save you money and save the climate.
